A Google Messages Tests New Design For Delivered And Read Indicators

A Brief Introduction To This Article

Google is currently testing a new design for delivered and read indicators in Google Messages. This will make it easier to keep track of your messages, especially if you frequently switch between devices. Read indicators let the sender know when their message has been seen.

Google’s new test includes more prominent check marks next to messages and is more consistent across the app. Moreover, the update also comes with a couple of small tweaks — such as slightly larger chat bubbles, simpler icons and cleaner navigation — that make the app look much nicer than before.

The delivered indicator is another important factor, especially if you tend to have many overlapping conversations where you respond to someone before they finish reading your last message. Keeping track of these subtle indicators can be tricky.

How to Enable the New Google Messages Design

Google does not offer a way to enable this feature as it's in testing. If you want to try it out you'll have to wait for Google to roll it out to all users.

How To Check Which Messages You’ve Seen

The first indicator will appear as a blue dot next to the message. The dot will remain blue until the recipient has read the message. The blue dot will then transform into a grey dot, indicating that the recipient has read the message. The second indicator will appear as a blue line above the message.

The blue line will remain until the recipient has read the message. Once the message has been read, the line will turn grey. The third indicator will appear as a blue border around the message. This border will remain until the recipient has read the message. Once the message has been read, the border will turn off.

The fourth indicator will appear as an unread conversation badge on the conversation. This badge will remain until the entire conversation has been read. Once the conversation has been read, the badge will turn grey.

How To See Which Messages You’ve Read

The first indicator will appear as a white dot next to the message. The dot will remain white until the end of the conversation. The white dot will then transform into a grey dot, indicating that the conversation has ended. The second indicator will appear as a white line above the message.

The line will remain until the end of the conversation. Once the conversation has ended, the line will turn grey. The third indicator will appear as a white border around the message. This border will remain until the end of the conversation. Once the conversation has ended, the border will turn off.

The fourth indicator will appear as a conversation end badge on the conversation. This badge will remain until the end of the conversation. Once the conversation has ended, the badge will turn grey.

Other Changes And Conclusion

Google Messages is rolling out new delivered and read status indicators as part of an RCS Chat beta test. Last week, Google Messages announced new features and rolled out a new icon. Today, those with RCS Chat enabled can see the delivered and read status of their messages in real time.

As soon as you've sent the message, you will see a sent time and lock icon on the right-hand side, and a check mark in a circle on the left-hand side. On the read status, the second icon will be partially overlapping the first one, indicating it as read.

Google's goal with this design is to reduce the width of the information displayed below a message, while at the same time conveying both statuses.
